20 min mark has some good racing
At the 1:13 and 26 seconds mark is the introduction of now Vermont Governor Phil Scott.
You gotta love hearing a Daytona 500 lead announcer going back to his roots when he's off television for the week and calling the show for the weekend warriors. As a Connecticut guy it'd be nuts getting to hear Mike Joy at one of my tracks week after week after the Fox half of the schedule wound down, or alternatively someone like Ben Dodge or Matt Buckler get a major television spot.
I heard Mike Joy called a Busch North Race at Lee USA Speedway in the 90’s.
Did Jack Arute have any day-to-day announcing duties at Stafford Springs?
Oh yes for sure. He’s done some announcing as recently as 2016.
Did the Arute family own Whip City Speedway too?
I do not know tbh
Is that Dave Moody as well?
It’s good to see that street stocks haven’t changed in the last 30 years
if the weather was right, you used ot be able to hear the races on the radio back then. ( WDEV maybe?)
I haven't been up there in a couple years, but I've seen pics of the improvements to the track. I still prefer the old Road over the new one, but the new one looks impressive with all the changes.
WDEV frequently, when not preempted by the Red Sox, broadcasted every Thunder Road and ACT event. For a time, in the days of the old NASCAR North, the races from Catamount and Thunder Road both would be on WDEV and WDOT (AM620 back in the '80s) out of Colchester. DEV can be heard, under the right atmospheric conditions, all the way to Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine.
Jeez that took me back! As a kid that track was my world and I couldn't wait to get there every week. Airborne in Plattsburgh was one of my faves too. Anyone remember the Steve Miller 00? I haven't lived in VT in over 20 years but I can still remember the winding drive up to the track. Thanks for the trip back!
This YouTube Chanel adds a new ACT/Thunder Road/Airborne video at least once a week. Steve Miller stopped driving about 10 years ago. They should race at the road tonight (weather permitting). The racing programs are streamed live on FlowTV I believe. The information is on the FB page as well as the website.
Thanks for the info, I will check it out for sure!
